Frank Lampard will miss Manchester City's Champions League tie with CSKA Moscow at an empty Arena Khimki on Tuesday after injuring his thigh.
The game is behind closed doors after the Russians were punished for a series of offences, including racist chanting.
Midfielder Lampard, 36, left the field on a stretcher during the first half of Saturday's 4-1 win against Tottenham.
Meanwhile, defender Eliaquim Mangala is hoping to prove his fitness after a thigh injury.
Playmaker Samir Nasri, who is sidelined after a groin operation, is City's only other absentee.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini said: "It is a pity that we cannot play with fans. This is a showpiece for fans.
"It will be a very strange game, with only the players shouting on the pitch.
"We have no option and we must play that way, and many may think the local team will suffer the most damage, but I think the biggest loser is the game of football."
