Five things we learnt from Chelsea vs Bayern Munich

ALVARO MORATA made his Chelsea debut as a late Blues fightback was not enough to beat Bayern Munich.
Rafinha opened the scoring for the Bundesliga champions before Thomas Muller grabbed a brace. Marcos Alonso got one back for Chelsea just before half-time and Michy Batshuayi got the second after a flick on from Morata.
Here are five things we learnt and check out how the match unfolded in the blog below.

Chelsea were at times terrible in defence

They cleaned up their act in the second half but at times in the first the side praised for being so good last season were at sixes and sevens.
Rafinha was afford loads of space to fire off his opener – although, admittedly, Thibaut Courtois should have done more between the sticks.
Alonso was guilty of losing position numerous times giving Muller the space for his first.
And it was a carbon copy for James Rodriguez, who should also have scored in the first half when gifted acres of room in the Chelsea box.

Morata already helping Chelsea to score

The new £65million man came on at the same time as David Luiz in the second half and it was originally the defender who made the bigger impact up front.
But the former Real man grew into the game well and it was from his flick on that Batshuayi got Chelsea’s second.
The rust was clearly evident in his legs but Morata hardly looks out of shape.
Conte must be confident of him reaching full match fitness in no time.

Renato Sanches finally looked like the player Bayern wanted

Manchester United probably felt like they got away with one missing out on Sanches last season.
The Portugal star opted for Germany and promptly suffered a campaign to forget.
But this game he was bright, lively, reading between the lines and generally a nuisance.

James Rodriguez has broken free from the shackles at Real Madrid

Zinedine Zidane said he wouldn’t leave but now he has the former Real man looks like he has a new lease of life.
He will need to work on his finishing, though.
James should have scored two.
In fact, he should have scored three, with Chelsea skipper Gary Cahill’s crucial block surely only preventing him.

Victor Moses can’t wait for the season to start

One of the revelations of last season looks to be ready if the season were to start tomorrow.
Light on his feet even on the heavy pitch and pacing around till the end, the wing-back is clearly still loving the role given to him by boss Conte.
Yes, his dribbling still needs work and sometimes he would be better off not trying to take players on, but his commitment and desire could not be faulted.
