CHELSEA are worried Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is getting cold feet over a £40million move.
The Premier League champions have agreed a fee with Arsenal but there is some way to go before the transfer is complete. And with Liverpool waiting in the wings to try and hijack the move, the Blues are getting jittery.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, 24, was still with England at their St George’s Park base last night — having NOT requested permission to leave for Chelsea talks.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to play the former Southampton ace in central midfield, which is his preferred position.
But Stamford Bridge manager Antonio Conte sees the versatile star as a wing-back.
Talks are ongoing and Liverpool have yet to make a bid because of bad blood between them and Arsenal.
The fallout dates back to 2013 and the Gunners’ cheeky attempt to trigger Luis Suarez’s release clause — with a bid of £40million plus £1. Chelsea remain in pole position to sign Oxlade-Chamberlain but face a frantic next 24 hours as they battle to get the deal over the line.
The Ox has already rejected a new deal worth £180,000 a week at the Emirates and is now in the final year of his contract.
