MANCHESTER UNITED have been given a massive boost in their bid to sign Thomas Lemar.
The feeling in France is that the Monaco striker would rather join them than Arsenal. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists Monaco won’t sell £45million-rated Lemar.
But reports in Europe suggest there is a slight glimmer of hope that he will, after all, be allowed to leave.
The Gunners were very keen on a £45million deal but Wenger said: “It’s dead because Monaco don’t want to sell.
“Kylian Mbappe, Fabinho… they have lost already Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko.
“So Monaco is at a stage where they have closed the door.” Lemar, 21, is keen on a move to the Premier League.
The French international scored 11 goals in Ligue 1 and the Champions League last season.
And Lemar already has an assist under his belt this time around, with Leonardo Jardim’s side winning their opening three matches of the campaign.
Even though Jose Mourinho already has Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, Lemar’s pace and ability from wide areas would really suit United’s style of play.
Monaco, of course, have been decimated by outgoing transfers and are obviously reluctant to sell another emerging star.
