TOTTENHAM could potentially miss out on signing Paris Saint-Germain star Serge Aurier, as he prefers a move to Manchester United.
Spurs are believed to have agreed a fee with the Ligue 1 side in the region of £23million for the 24-year-old right-back. And Aurier’s PSG team-mate Adrien Rabiot recently suggested that he was on his way to join Mauricio Pochettino’s men.
However, according to SFR Sport, the Ivorian would rather sign for the Red Devils, while his club are keen to offload him to the North London outfit.
Spurs have made a significant offer to the Ligue 1 giants which they are happy with.
PSG need to offload players to reduce their wage bill as Neymar is raking in a modest £500,000-a-week.
The report also claims that Pini Zahavi – the agent largely responsible for PSG’s transfer dealings this summer – is good friends with Daniel Levy.
To make matters worse for Tottenham, United midfielder Paul Pogba is pushing for the club to bring the ex-Toulouse ace to Old Trafford. Tottenham are in desperate need of a full-back after selling Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50m.
Kieran Trippier is currently the club’s first choice right-back, while they only have teenager Kyle Walker-Peters as cover.
Trippier was at fault for Burnley’s dramatic equaliser at Wembley on Sunday, as Chris Wood lashed home as the Clarets drew 1-1 against Spurs. United meanwhile have Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian, with Jose Mourinhoseemingly having to offload one player to make room for the African Cup of Nations winner.
Since joining PSG in 2014, Aurier has failed to cement himself in the starting XI – playing just 81 times in three campaign’s in all competitions.
He has been named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Season, and has won the French top-flight twice.
Spurs have already bolstered their back-line after the club-record acquisition of Davinson Sanchez from Ajax.
