HARRY KANE continued his stunning September with a perfect hat-trick to continue Tottenham’s perfect start to their Champions League campaign.
The England striker took his tally to 11 for the month for club and country with a fine display to down APOEL. This 3-0 triumph makes it two wins out of two for Mauricio Pochettino’s men and sets them up nicely for their next Euro clash at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid.
But it was not all plain sailing for last season’s Premier League runners-up.
They had to survive two scares as Igor De Camargo fired against the bar for APOEL.
Then a mix-up between ‘keeper Hugo Lloris and Davinson Sanchez had almost gifted the hosts the lead before Kane turned on the style.
The 24-year-old broke the deadlock with six minutes remaining of the first half when he slotted home with a left-footed shot.
Lloris was then called into action again as he made a fine stop to deny Roland Sallai after the restart. The French No1 then produced an even better save to tip Stathis Aloneftis’ powerful drive over the bar.
But back came Spurs and Kane in the 64th-minute as he ended the Cypriot champs’ hopes of an upset by using his right foot to steer home Moussa Sissoko’s pass.
He then completed his treble by heading home Kieran Trippier’s cross four minutes later. After a goalless August the frontman has now found his scoring boots again and looks unstoppable as he took his tally in Europe to five in two matches.
And Poch will be praying he can continue his form next month when his men head to the Spanish capital to take on the La Liga giants.
