JOSE MOURINHO wants to snatch Alexis Sanchez from the clutches of Manchester City.
The Manchester United boss has been quoted a £25million signing-on fee for the Arsenal striker, who will be a free agent next summer. Sanchez cannot sign an official pre-contract with the Red Devils until the new year as it is an internal transfer between two clubs in the Premier League.
But an agreement could be put in place for the deal to go through.
City tried to get Sanchez in the summer but had a final bid of £60m rejected.
The Chile superstar, 28, wanted the switch to the Etihad but his advisers also sounded out United at the time.
Many at City were surprised boss Pep Guardiola went for Sanchez in the summer, given that would mean dropping one of Sergio Aguero or Gabriel Jesus.
That pair have struck up a great understanding on the pitch this season, which may mean City will reassess whether they want to continue their pursuit of Sanchez. It would be a stunning move by Old Trafford chief Mourinho and one the Gunners could do nothing about, having failed to get Sanchez to sign a new contract.
Sanchez courted controversy at the weekend during Arsenal’s 0-0 draw with Chelsea.
The Chilean was caught on camera smirking after Alexandre Lacazette missed an open goal at Stamford Bridge. But he was all smiles again as he joked around with team-mate Granit Xhaka on the training pitch.
Youngsters Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Eddie Nketiah all managed to get a grin from the often-surly star.
The Gunners host Doncaster in the Carabao Cup tonight with Sanchez likely to play a part.
