Manchester City star Ilkay Gundogan injured in first start

MANCHESTER CITY midfielder Ilkay Gundogan picked up ANOTHER injury – on his first start since returning from a lengthy lay-off.
The German midfielder was making his first start in nine months against West Brom in the Carabao Cup winBut Gundogan lasted just an hour before he was crunched by midfielder Claudio Yacob – a tackle that left manager Pep Guardiola furious on the sideline.
Gundogan was eventually subbed off after lengthy treatment on the pitch and looked devastated as he limped to the tunnel.
The 26-year-old only made his return from injury at the weekend, playing a cameo role from the bench in the win against Watford.
His last game had been last December, also against Watford, when he suffered a serious knee injury that required surgery.
The German international had looked sharp at The Hawthorns, setting up Leroy Sane’s opener just three minutes into the game.
But just before the hour mark Yacob launched a reckless tackle at Gundogan from behind and caught his ankle and knee. Yacob was booked for the tackle.
The good news for Man City is that the injury is not thought to be too serious.
Guardiola confirmed that Gundogan will go for a scan on Thursday, with the club optimistic he will be fine.
The City boss said: “He will be back soon, hopefully. He will be assessed tomorrow.
“The physios have told me it is little.”
