Juan Mata turned down staggering £375,000-a-week AFTER TAX to quit Manchester United

JUAN MATA turned down a staggering £375,000-a-week AFTER TAX to join the Chinese Super League, SunSport can reveal.
The Manchester United star was offered the mind-blowing sum by league chiefs while they were visiting last month's Soccerex convention. The Spanish midfielder has just 12-months remaining on his deal at Old Trafford and is paid £170,000-a-week.
But he wants to extend his contract and remain in Manchester, with United expected to take up his option of a further year on his contract.
It is not known which club offered Mata the huge terms, but a number of Chinese Super League clubs are thought to be interested in the 29-year-old.
A Red Devils source said: “Juan was offered a sizable amount of money to go to China. They were visiting last month and made it to his reps. “He sees his future here though and is determined to stay. He hasn't got long left but the option on his contract will almost-certainly be taken up.
“The club don't want him to leave on a free next summer. He is represented by his dad and has been pushing for a longer-term deal.”
Mata, who opened a tapas a wine bar in Manchester last year, joined United from Chelsea for a then club-record £37.1m in 2014.
He has made 118 appearances and scored 28 goals for Jose Mourinho's men, who drew 1-1 against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.
