BOOKIES slashed the odds on Slaven Bilic being the next Premier League manager to be out of a job.
West Ham fell to a terrible 3-0 home defeat against Brighton on Friday night - and the Croatian is now odds on to be the next Prem boss to lose his job. Everton manager Ronald Koeman is also in the hot seat, the Toffees have won just two of their last 12 games after a summer of heavy spending.
But following Friday night's defeat, Bilic is staring at the exit door.
Speaking after the match, Bilic even admitted that he "don't know" whether he will be given time to turn things around.
He said: "I don’t know [if I’ll be given time] all that I can say is that I am the manager of the team and I take full responsibility. "I am very experienced I have been there before, we talk about bouncing back last season, that is all I can say – what is going to happen? It’s not in my hands, like it wasn’t before the game.
"On one hand I believe in myself and in my work and in my team – we’ve showed that in the last six games.
"On the other hand, you lose 3-0 to Brighton and you can’t be happy about anything."
Speaking before the game, co-chairman David Sullivan hardly gave Bilic the most ringing of endorsements.
He told Sky Sports: "If you sign a contract you honour that contract, unless things are desperate. The manager has signed a three-year contract and is entitled to years.
"At the end of the season we will sit down with him and see if he wants to stay and we want him to stay. That's a long long way off but he is entitled to his three years.
"He doesn’t quite know what his best XI is. He hasn’t quite got to the bottom of it.
"We’re disappointed with where we are at the moment but I still think we could have a good year." Speaking later on the channel, pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville slammed the woeful Hammers.
"Awful," said Liverpool legend Carragher, "a performance that gets a manager sacked.
"[Marko] Arnautovic's performance was not someone who is desperate help the manager or club - it's beyond belief - in the first half I was starting to hold my tongue - he now heaps pressure on the manager."
He added: "West Ham were a shambles. They look like a group of players thrown together rather than a team.
"I don’t think the noises coming from the top help. The manager must always feel like he’s one game away from the sack."
Neville was equally critical of the club record signing Arnautovic.
He said: "I've only played with one player who doesn't need to track back and that's Cristiano Ronaldo - he's Ronaldo in his own mind - he thinks he's better than he is."
