VICTOR LINDELOF'S season has taken a fresh turn for the worse - with the Manchester United defender being snubbed for a top award in his homeland.
The Swedish centre-back has struggled to break into Jose Mourinho's starting line-up since his £30.75million summer arrival from Benfica. Lindelof was widely criticised for his display in United's 2-1 loss to Premier League newcomers Huddersfield earlier this month.
The 23-year-old international has now been left off the shortlist for Sweden's Defender of the Year. He won the prize at his country's 2016 Football Gala. Lindelof's advisor Hasan Cetinkaya fumed: "It's embarrassing for Swedish football that Victor has not been nominated. "You can hardly take it seriously. "In the past year he has won the league and cup with Benfica, played in the Champions League for both them and Manchester United, and has dominated the national team. "He doesn't care about this.  He will focus on playing for United and the national team.
"He has done well in his Champions League games, and against Swansea.  He did not get on so well against Huddersfield - that was a difficult situation. "But you have to be patient. Victor is 23, and he has joined one of the world's biggest clubs in the world's best league. "Look at Nemanja Vidic and other big players who joined United. It takes a while to adapt to a new environment. "I don't know who is on the awards jury.  But they must be on a low level if Victor isn't even nominated for Defender of the Year."
