Everton give up on Watford boss Marco Silva

MARCO SILVA will not be leaving Watford for Goodison Park.
Everton owner has been trying to woo the Portuguese coach for some time but the Hornets have stood firm.
Marco Silva is staying at Watford despite all the attention paid to him by Everton
The Toffees even dangled a £10million compensation carrot but still the Hertfordshire club wouldn't budge.
Many experts are surprised at Watford's stance given the regularity in which they swap managers.
The feeling in some quarters was they could quite easily turn to an out of work foreign manager to keep Silva's good work going.
But given that the former Hull boss didn't have a release clause in his contract, and the fact that Watford stuck their heels in. It means Everton are still searching for Ronald Koeman's successor.
Luis van Gaal has ruled out a move to Goodison Park, although there is word from Spain that Atletico Madrid's Diego Simeone might be interested. Everton began their chase for Silva on November 13.
Last week Hornets' chairman and chief executive Scott Duxbury made it abundantly clear they would not be releasing Silva under any circumstances. Silva is under contract at Vicarage Road until June 2019. He would have needed to resign to take the Goodison role.
Everton offered a substantial pay-rise with money to spend in the transfer market.
But he did not want to leave without Watford's blessing and did not want to resign.
