Bristol City were ‘lucky’ - Jose Mourinho

JOSE MOURINHO claimed Bristol City were "lucky" following their stoppage time win over Manchester United in the Carabao Cup.

The Championship high-fliers knocked out England's most successful club thanks to Korey Smith's last-gasp winner.

But Mourinho insists there was luck involved in the famous victory.

Speaking after the defeat, he said: “They were a bit lucky  but fought a lot to be lucky.

“They played brilliantly and  fought like it was the game of their lives.

“It was a brilliant day for football — congratulations  to them. We lacked the intensity that  they had. “It was just one more day in the office for my players — a day  some of them didn’t even want to come to the office!

“When big teams face teams from lower divisions this is always a risk.”

Bristol City led through Joe Bryan for just seven minutes before Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalised with a free-kick.

However, Smith sparked an Ashton Gate pitch invasion with his late, late winner.
