The Daily Record say that Ancelotti, 58, has been contacted by the club and is their number one choice to replace his fellow Italian.
Conte is expected to leave before the start of next season - and could go earlier if things go badly against Barcelona in the Champions League last 16.
The former Italy manager has hinted at frustrations throughout the campaign.
And following last weekend's loss to West Ham he claimed that title hopes were over the season had begun. Conte, 48, wanted Chelsea to strengthen their squad even more in the summer.
That was despite spending £187million on Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Alvaro Morata, Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta.
Blues recouped £69m from the sales of Diego Costa and Bertrand Traore. The report adds that Ancelotti will not be going back to Paris Saint-Germain, where Unai Emery is under pressure.
Ancelotti clinched an FA Cup and Prem double in 2009-10, leaving the following year after two seasons at Stamford Bridge.
He went on to win the league at PSG and Bayern Munich and netted the Champions League with Real Madrid.
