PEP GUARDIOLA reckons his Manchester City side are learning to win in ‘Fergie time’ ahead of Sunday’s derby at Old Trafford.
For the fourth game in a row, City took victory over West Ham thanks to a goal scored in the last ten minutes — this time by David Silva.
United were notorious for their last-gasp triumphs during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign.
Boss Guardiola smiled: “I heard about Fergie time. I was not here in that period — but of course you need to have this.
"What we showed in the last few games is that we will never give up. The opponent doesn’t want to play.
“They just want to defend. I can understand. I’m not judging — but it is difficult. If we can take something in Fergie time, it is welcome, a pleasure.” City have an eight-point lead in the table over second-placed United and have dropped only two points out of a possible 45 this season.
The Etihad club have now won 13 straight Premier League matches and can equal Arsenal’s record of 14 if they beat United on their own patch next weekend. But Guardiola is taking nothing for granted. He added: “United are always there and Chelsea are coming back. It is the same Chelsea as last season — Liverpool are there, too.”
West Ham stunned City by taking the lead through Angelo Ogbonna’s header just before half-time. And they were threatening to hold out until Nicolas Otamendi made it 1-1 from close range on 57 minutes. Then Silva acrobatically pounced on a stunning Kevin De Bruyne cross late on to nab victory.
New Hammers boss David Moyes has now taken just one point from his first four matches in charge, with his side sitting second bottom.
He said: “We are gutted we lost, we played against a really good side and we restricted them for long periods.”
