Algeria face Malawi test

Yacine Brahimi
Algeria will look to secure their place in the 2015 CAF Africa Cup of Nations when they face Malawi in a Group B qualifier at the Mustapha Tchaker Stadium in Blida on Wednesday.
Kick-off is at 9.30pm (CAT).
The Fennecs registered a third straight win in the group this past weekend when they defeated Malawi 2-0 in Blantyre to remain at the top of the standings with nine points from three games.
Mali are in second place with six points, followed by Malawi and Ethiopia, with three and zero points, respectively.
Christian Gourcuff is pleased with the way his charges have performed in their first three matches, but insists that they cannot afford to drop the ball before qualification is secured.
"I appreciate the players' development in the performance throughout the three qualifiers,” the Algeria coach said during a press conference.
"I ask them to continue until the end of the qualifiers as winning three games consecutively doesn't mean that we are African Champions.
"The second-leg game (against Malawi) won't be easy as the opponents will search for victory to raise their hopes of reaching the tournament finals."
The Flames will look for a positive result in Blida to keep alive their hopes of finishing in the top half of the table.
“If we can force a draw in Algeria and win against Mali and Ethiopia, we still can make it to Morocco,” coach Young Chimodzi told BNL after Saturday’s game.
Malawi will have to improve defensively as they have conceded two goals in each of the three qualifiers they have played so far, while the Algerian defence has been solid, letting in just one goal in three matches.
The Fennecs have also scored in all three matches so far, while the Flames have failed to find the back of the net in two of their three qualifiers.
Mali, who defeated Ethiopia 2-0 away from home over the weekend, will also aim to consolidate their position in the top half when they host the same opponents in Bamako.
