Falcons unbeaten

Francisca Ordega
Nigeria defeated hosts Namibia 2-0 to remain unbeaten at the ongoing Africa Women’s Championships at the Sam Nujoma stadium in Windhoek.
Gloria Ofoegbu opened the scoring in the 36th minute from a well taken free kick in the penalty box that slipped past Namibian goalkeeper Lydia Eixas to give the Super Falcons a 1-0 lead.
Francisca Ordega doubled the score two minutes after a disastrous mistake that saw Eixas leaving her line only for the former to slot the ball into an open goal to give the Super Falcons a 2-0 lead before the halftime mark.
Eventual man-of-the-match Zenatha Coleman came close to scoring on several occasions including a free kick that went wide in Namibia’s opening chance early into the game and a missed header in the second half.
The Falcons have qualified for the semifinals unbeaten having won their opening game 2-1 against Ivory Coast and a 6-0 humiliation of Zambia.
Considered tournament favourites, Nigeria amassed nine points to top Group A with a maximum nine points while Ivory Coast with four points from a 3-1 win over Namibia and a point from a 1-1 draw with Zambia. Les Elephantes lost 4-2 to Nigeria.
Namibia with three points from three games and Zambia with a point are out of the tournament after finishing third and fourth respectively.
The top three teams from this tournament will qualify for the 2015 Fifa Women’s World Cup in Canada.
