Ikechukwu Uche
Nigeria striker, Ikechukwu Uche , scored twice to help his club, Villareal CF, secure a 2-0 win over Almeria in Sunday's Spanish La Liga match.
Uche got his brace of goals in the 23rd and 59th minute of the match at the Estadio El Madrigal.
The 30-year-old forward had one of his best games of the season, and started off by threading a pass that freed up his teammate, Giovani dos Santos, who was flagged offside in the 17th minute.
Another Nigerian, Ramon Azeez, was also in the thick of happenings at the Estadio El Madrigal but for Almeria.
However, it did not take long for Uche to get the ball in the back of the net. On 23 minutes, Uche scored from close range with his right foot to give Villareal the lead after Almeria goalkeeper Ruben Martinez could only block out Mario's initial shot.
Uche's goal was sufficient for the Yellow Submarine to take a one-goal into the break.
Nine minutes into the restart, Uche nearly made it two-nil to Villareal but his right-footed shot from outside of the box was blocked.
But a minute to the half hour in the game, Uche was on hand to apply the finish and give Villareal a two-goal lead over Almeria.
Almeria goalkeeper, Martinez, did enough to keep out two succesive attempts on goal by Villareal but could do nothing to stop Uche from netting his second and that of the Yellow Submarine.
While Uche played all 90 minutes in a 2-0 win he conjured for Villareal, his countryman, Azeez was replaced by Teerasil Dangda in the 68th minute.
The Nigerian striker has now taken his number of goals to three in six matches in the Spanish top flight this season.
