Man City to spend more than Real Madrid

PEP GUARDIOLA is on course to smash Real Madrid’s record for the most money spent in one transfer window.
The Manchester City boss has already splashed out a barmy £200MILLION in this window – and more players could be on the way. Pep's shopping spree means that the club trail only Real Madrid for spending power in one window.
In the summer of 2009 Los Blancos president Florentino Perez handed Manuel Pellegrini a small fortune to rebuild the Spanish giants.
And while Pep has been spending his fortune on Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy - two right-backs and a left-back - Real Madrid spent the bulk of their money bringing in Ballon d'Or winners.
Cristiano Ronaldo arrived from Manchester United in a then-world record deal worth £80m, while Kaka was bought from AC Milan for £56m.
That summer also saw Real Madrid add two players who would become key parts of multiple Champions League and La Liga winning teams.
Xabi Alonso cost £30m from Liverpool and the club paid the same price to bring Karim Benzema in from Lyon.

RECORD SPENDING SPREES

REAL MADRID (2009-10): £219.8million
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (£80m)
  • Kaka (£56m)
  • Xabi Alonso (£30m)
  • Karim Benzema (£30m)
  • Raul Albiol (£12.75m)
  • Alvaro Negredo (£4.25m)
  • Alvaro Arbeloa (£3.4m)
  • Esteban Graneo (3.4m)
  • Ezequiel Garay (free)
MAN CITY (2017-18): £216.15million
  • Benjamin Mendy (£52m)
  • Kyle Walker (£50m)
  • Bernardo Silva (£42.5m)
  • Ederson Moraes (£34m)
  • Danilo (26m)
  • Douglas Luiz (10.2m)
  • Eric Garcia (£1.45m)
Transfer fees have obviously inflated in the last eight years (a 26-year-old Ronaldo would probably be worth north of £200m) but Pep's spending has been criticised in all corners.
Guardiola spent a record amount for a goalkeeper, splashing out £34m for Ederson Moraes - and saw him make a huge error in his debut against rivals Manchester United.
Bernardo Silva, bought from Monaco for £42.5m, is the only attacking player Guardiola has added this window.
The continued, desperate search for help at the back has seen Man City splash out more than£300MILLION on goalkeepers and defenders since 2013.
Some of those have been big money flops who have already been replaced - while the jury is out on others
