Manchester United move for Ivan Perisic could be off

MANCHESTER UNITED’S move for Ivan Perisic could be off, according to Inter Milan boss Luciano Spalletti.
Perisic has been a major target over the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to improve his squad ahead of next season. But now Spalletti has cast doubt over the Croatian midfielder making a move to Old Trafford.
Spalletti said: “There was something you already know about at the beginning of the window [but] there was no follow-up and so, for me, the topic is over.
“I will strongly oppose the sale of Perisic if an offer comes.”
United are unwilling to meet Inter’s £45m asking price for the 28-year-old former Dortmund and Wolfsburg star.
But Old Trafford executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is under pressure to meet Mourinho’s wishes.
But Inter chief Spalletti also conceded he may be forced to let Perisic go if he forces a move. Spalletti added: “I know him well, everyone knows him. “For me the talk is always the same when it comes to him.
“He’s strong, he’s a player I want to keep with me, but then we must consider the opinion of the club and the player.”
Perisic started his career as a youth product of home-town side Hadjuk Split, before spending the final season of his youth life at French side Sochaux. After two years with their ‘B’ side, he moved to Club Brugge before attracting the attention of German giants Borussia Dortmund.
Following two seasons at Dortmund, Perisic spent another two years in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg, before joining Inter Milan in 2015.
Perisic has also racked up 56 caps for Croatia, scoring 16 times for his country.
