LIONEL MESSI has the complete opposite of a hangover from his memorable summer as he has returned in his ‘best-ever shape’ for pre-season.
The Argentine has had an unforgettable summer which saw him sign a new contract with Barcelona as well as marry his childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo. And the 30-year-old has come back rejuvenated after SPORT claim he is showing numbers that he has never produced in pre-season before.
There were murmurs coming from Barca’s camp suggesting their talisman was in tip-top shape but he proved it in his first game back after wearing a GPS tracker.
The GPS monitors players’ physical condition and provides extensive data – revealing their acceleration, top speed and distance covered.
A source said: “He’s happy, he’s renewed his contract at Barcelona and he’s turned up at pre-season like a train.”
And added that the data is “Messi’s best in pre-season”.
Messi showed off his immaculate condition in a 2-1 win over Juventus – which saw Neymar steal the headlines with a stunning brace. It is believed Messi and his fellow strike partner Luis Suarez have managed to persuade Neymar to stay at the Nou Camp.
It is believed they convinced Neymar not to leave in a chat lasting over an hour.
Neymar continues to be linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, worth £195million.
