ANDRES INIESTA has put Premier League clubs on red alert by revealing he is considering his future “for the first time”.
The Barcelona icon has spent his entire career with his Catalan club, but is yet to sign a new contract. And he reveals the certainty surrounding the club is making him consider his own future — something he admits has never happened before.
He told El Pais: “Right now, I still have not signed a new contract.
“I have felt many strange feelings for the first time, but I think this may be normal.
“It is a situation I could never have imagined three years ago.
“Basically, I’m considering my future, which is something I would never have done before.”
Iniesta has been at the club since the age of eight, and made his senior debut in 2002. He is among the longest-serving one-club men still playing and is one of the most decorated footballers of all-time.
Iniesta is one of the only Barcelona players to receive a cheer at the Bernabeu, having got a warm reaction at every stadium in Spain in the season following his World Cup final winner.
Last season he was in-and-out of the team under Luis Enrique.
And, recently, Barca sparked fears he could be set to leave with a tweet similar to one about Neymar — hours before his £198million move to Paris Saint-Germain was announced.
Should he leave, Pep Guardiola would surely welcome him with open arms to the Etihad.
Iniesta was instrumental in the success the current Manchester City boss achieved at the Nou Camp.
