Bale criticized for his pre-season performance

GARETH BALE has incredibly received huge criticism in Spain for his underwhelming performances in pre-season.
The Welshman failed to score a single goal as Real Madrid lost every match in the USA and now faces a battle to make the starting line-up for the Uefa Super Cup clash with Manchester United. He started off his career in Spain with a bang — netting winners in the Copa del Rey and Champions League finals in his first season.
However, it has been downhill since on a personal level and the stats reveal he may have cost Real Madrid a staggering £1.8MILLION per goal as Bale has been massively outscored by team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo.
Furthermore, injuries have seriously restricted his appearance tally and Los Blancos have paid out £830,000 for every match if Football Leaks’ figures are to be believed.
The notorious website revealed Real Madrid’s total fee for Bale was around the £90million mark.
Which, added to the £124.6m the club have paid him in the four years he’s been there, makes his comfortably the Bernabeu giants’ costliest acquisition.
Bale earns £289,000-a-week, but due to the high Spanish tax laws, Los Blancos actually shell out an incredible £611k every seven days. But have they really had a good return on their investment?
Last term in particular was extremely disappointing for the 28-year-old.
He made just 27 appearances in all competitions — and a late injury saw him miss the latter part of the season and he even started the Champions League final on the bench. Bale scored just nine goals and contributed five assists last term.
Centre-back Sergio Ramos was among seven players to outscore the second-most expensive player of all time.
In his first season in the Spanish capital, the Welshman scored 22 goals and contributed an impressive 19 assists as he helped end the 12-year wait for a tenth Champions League triumph.
However, he has failed to reach those heights since. His second season saw a dip to 17 goals and 12 assists, which were increased by two and three respectively as Real Madrid reclaimed the Champions League in the 2015-16 campaign.
Bale’s appearance tally has also significantly decreased.
He played 44 times in 2013-14 before featuring in 48 the following season. But, in 2015-16, he made 31 appearances and just 27 in the previous campaign as Real Madrid reached the Champions League final and Copa del Rey quarter-finals.
Involvement in the Uefa Super Cup and Fifa Club World Cup brought Los Blancos’ season tally to a whopping 60 games.
And that means Bale featured in less than half.
