JORDAN HENDERSON wants the England captaincy full-time — and is ‘ready’ for the responsibility.
The Liverpool midfielder said: “Of course I want to be captain. “If you ask a lot of the lads in the dressing room, they’ll feel as though they’re ready to lead this team. And I’m no different.
“It’s up to the manager. I’m sure the lads will be right behind the person to help them lead.
“I think it’s just finding the right captain for the manager and for this team.
“That’s his decision but I feel as though I’m ready.”
Boss Gareth Southgate is considering his options after Wayne Rooney called time on his 119-cap international career last week.
Hendo, who has twice captained his country under Southgate, added: “The captaincy is a massive honour. “When Gareth gave me the opportunity for the first time, in November, it was a huge honour. When Harry Kane captained the squad it was a huge honour for him, Joe Hart has done it, Gary Cahill has done it.
“There’s a lot of leaders in the group that will help the captain whoever it is.”
