SWANSEA hope to snap up Colombian right-back Santiago Arias — before Chelsea get their hands on him.
Boss Paul Clement is pushing to close a £12million deal with PSV Eindhoven for the defender, who has been on his wish-list for months. He is conscious that Chelsea have Arias on their list for the wing-back role, especially as their top target, Valencia’s Joao Cancelo, looks likely to go to Inter.
Arias, 25, knows about the Chelsea possibility and had been waiting for them to move in the past two windows.
Tottenham are also said to be considering a bid.
But sources close to Arias suggest he is now open to Swansea.
Clement has the cash from the £45m sale of Gylfi Sigurdsson to Everton and believes an attacking right-back is vital for his side.
Meanwhile, Swans striker Oli McBurnie — who was due to join Barnsley on loan — is now also wanted by Leeds to replace Burnley-bound Chris Wood. The club will let the Scot out once Fernando Llorente is fully fit or a new signing comes in.
Swans are also ready to snap up another Scottish striker, Lawrence Shankland, after he was freed by Aberdeen.
Clement’s men suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Manchester United after a late flurry of goals from Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial.
