Arsene Wenger was wrong to stay - Tony Adams

ARSENAL legend Tony Adams believes Arsene Wenger’s tenure will “end in tears” after refusing to walk away in May.
The Frenchman signed a two-year deal with the Gunners after their 2-1 FA Cup final win over Chelsea — despite refusing to commit to the club during the campaign. But Adams, 50, feels Wenger should have ended his 21-year reign on a high.
Speaking to the Islington Gazette, the former England captain said: “Arsene should have gone in May.
“He should have said ‘thanks very much I’ve done unbelievably for this football club’ — and they would have put up a statue of him.
“Everyone would have said what a great man, ‘now move onto the board and do an ‘Alex’ [Sir Alex Ferguson] and come back when you want.
“But it’s not for him — and it’s going to end in tears.
“He’s such a great guy. He’s said ‘retirement is death’. “But you don’t have to retire, do you?
“He’ll have a place at Arsenal forever — he’s the greatest Arsenal manager and deserves respect.
“You could say if he wants another two years give him another two years — but my opinion is that he should have gone after beating Chelsea.”
Wenger keeping star man Alexis Sanchez in the summer transfer window was all part of one of hte craziest deadline days ever. Take a look at the most profitable transfers of ALL time.
