PEP GUARDIOLA plans a heart-to-heart with Raheem Sterling after a traumatic couple of weeks for the England ace.
The Manchester City winger feared he could be on his way out of the Etihad when he was linked to Arsenal last month. The Gunners said they may be tempted to do a deal for Alexis Sanchez if the England man was included, but City refused and the £60million deal fell through.
But there was little to cheer him up while on international duty.
Sterling was hauled off as the Three Lions struggled to break down Malta – then dropped for the win over Slovakia.
All that came on the back of a red card in his last game for City at Bournemouth — meaning he misses the visit of former club Liverpool tomorrow lunch-time.
Guardiola is keen to let Sterling know he still has confidence in him and wants him to keep his chin up.
The Spaniard plans to have a chat with Sterling after training to make sure he does not let his head drop. Sterling, 22, has been key in ensuring City’s unconvincing start to the season has not turned into a disaster.
His goals against Everton and Bournemouth earned points for Guardiola’s men — and his manager still has faith in him.
Meanwhile, Guardiola is sweating on the fitness of Belgian skipper Vincent Kompanywho injured a calf while on international duty.
