Champions League round-up

BAYERN MUNICH got their Champions League campaign off to a flying start with a comfortable 3-0 win over Anderlecht in their opener.
Carlo Ancelotti‘s men are among the favourites for this season’s competition — and it took just 12 minutes to get off the mark. Sven Kums was deemed the last man when he hauled down Robert Lewandowski to earn a red card.
The referee pointed to the spot despite TV replays showing the contact was outside the box.
Lewandowski dusted himself down to tuck home from 12 yards.
Despite their one-man advantage, Bayern struggled to find that second goal — and had to wait until the 65th minute.
Moments after Anderlecht hit the post, Joshua Kimmich crossed for Thiago Alcantara to double the advantage.
Kimmich added a third in stoppage time. Celtic’s 5-0 defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain means Anderlecht are third after matchday one.
Meanwhile, Roma were thankful to goalkeeper Alisson and a sensational goal-line clearance from Kostas Manolas to keep Antoine Griezmann and Co. at bay in a 0-0 draw against Atletico Madrid.
Saul Niguez missed a sitter in stoppage time.
Chelsea’s 6-0 victory over Qarabag put them top of the group. There was a shock in Manchester United‘s group as rivals Benfica went down 2-1 at home to CSKA Moscow.
Haris Seferovic gave the Portuguese giants a second-half lead, but they were stunned when Vitinho equalised and 20-year-old Timur Zhamaletdinov flipped the score on its head.
The first group stage goal of the season was scored by Sporting Lisbon — when Seydou Doumbia gave them a second-minute lead in Athens against Olympiakos. And the in-demand Gelson Martins made it 2-0 on 13 minutes before Bruno Fernandes added a third just before half-time.
It looked to be game over before Felipe Pardo scored twice for the hosts in the final minutes to make it 3-2.
However, Sporting hold on to put pressure on Juventus, who were hammered 3-0 by Barcelona.
