Roy Hodgson secures first Crystal Palace win in the Carabao Cup

ROY HODGSON secured his first win as Crystal Palace manager as the Eagles advanced in the Carabao Cup.
Bakary Sako was the hero for the out-of-form South London side as his first half header proved enough to down Huddersfield at Selhurst Park. The former England boss was further boosted as defender Papa Souare came on to make his first appearance for the club since breaking his jaw and thigh bone in a car crash a year ago.
Patrick Bamford secured Middlesbrough‘s passage into the second round as they strolled to victory at Villa Park.
The ex-Chelsea ace netted a penalty before adding a second as the hosts finished with ten-men following Tommy Elphick’s second yellow card.
Midfielder Mario Vrancic also bagged two as Norwich defeated Brentford.
Josh Murphy added the third before Josh Clarke slotted home a consolation for the Bees – who squandered a penalty earlier in the night through Yoann Barbet.
Premier League Stoke City were upset by Championship outfit Bristol City. The Potters conceded twice inside the first ten minutes of the second half as Famara Diedhiou and Matt Taylor inflicted misery on the visitors to the west country.
Bournemouth beat Brighton for the second time in five days as Josh King’s extra-time goal ensured a 1-0 triumph.
Wolves also needed extra time to get past a stubborn Bristol Rovers thanks to Bright Enobakhare firing the only goal of the game. And goals from Alfie Mawson and Jordan Ayew were enough for Swansea City to seal their spot in the Carabao Cup third round draw.
The Swans swept aside Reading at the Madejski.
