RONALD KOEMAN has been SACKED as Everton boss after a horror start to the 2017-18 season.
The Toffees threw away a lead to lose 5-2 against Arsenal on Sunday and slip into the relegation zone despite their outrageous summer spending. Koeman - spotted on Monday morning arriving early for training - oversaw a £150million outlay but has endured a shocking start to the term.
Everton said in a statement: "Everton Football Club can confirm that Ronald Koeman has left the Club.
"Chairman Bill Kenwright, the Board of Directors and Major Shareholder Farhad Moshiri would all like to express their gratitude to Ronald for the service he has given to the Club over the past 16 months and for guiding the Club to seventh place in last season’s Premier League campaign."
Koeman had guided the Toffees to a perilous 18th place in the table, with just TWOwins and five losses from their opening nine games. Despite the addition of players including Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane, Jordan Pickford and Gylfi Sigurdsson, Everton look a shadow of the team they were last term.
Former Southampton boss Koeman guided the Merseyside outfit to seventh in the table, with 17 wins and ten draws from their 28 outings. David Unsworth is now expected to take temporary charge of Everton - and could be given the job on a permanent basis - with Sean Dyche and Carlo Ancelotti front-runners.
Meanwhile, former Toffees boss David Moyes is a shock contender to take over the reins once more, having left in 2013 to lead Manchester United, post-Sir Alex Ferguson. Moyes spent 11 years at the club before taking over the top job at Old Trafford.
The Scot boss, 54, took over from Fergie but struggled mightily before being given the boot and replaced by Louis van Gaal.
Moyes has maintained a strong relationship with club chairman Kenwright, with the Blues owner admitting he could not turn down the United top job four years ago. On Sunday night, hours after the 5-2 hammering by Arsenal, Koeman met up with friends for a bite to eat at up-market Italian restaurant San Carlo in the city centre.
The 54-year-old was joined by Manchester City manager and his former Barcelona team-mate Pep Guardiola.
Despite looking happy on Sunday evening, he looked glum en route to training on Monday morning.
By lunch-time, Koeman was gone... with Sam Allardyce another name in the frame to take over.
Koeman's sacking comes after an exclusive Sun poll by Voice of the fans this morning revealed a huge 81 per cent of Everton fans wanted him out.
The same poll reveals that former Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini is the fans' favourite to take over the Goodison Park hotseat.
