William Carvalho set to be offered new Sporting Lisbon deal

SPORTING LISBON are ready to deal a blow to West Ham and Everton - by tying in-demand midfielder William Carvalho to a new contract.
The Hammers were desperate to sign the Portugal star over the summer but were met with frustration as they failed to agree a fee with Sporting. The collapse of that move led to a huge row breaking out between the two clubs, with Sporting claiming the Hammers had failed to even make an official bid.
West Ham hit back threatening to take legal action and insisted they had made a bid but that Sporting had messed them around trying to push the price up.
Carvalho was understood to be keen to make the switch to the London Stadium seven though he would have been giving up potential Champions League football.
And with the defensive midfielder player one of Slaven Bilic's top targets there had been a hope of reviving a deal either in January or at the end of the season. Everton had also been back in the hunt for Carvalho having been linked with a move for him 18 months ago.
The club's poor start to the season has left them looking at ways they can strengthen their squad in January, and boss Ronald Koeman has been a long-term fan. However Sporting plan to hold on to their prize asset for at least another season.
And reports in the Portuguese capital claim Sporting chiefs have approached Carvalho and his advisors with the offer of a new deal. It would see the defensive midfielder extend his stay at the Estadio Jose Alvalade by a year until 2021, and his release clause would swell from £40million to £54m.
Carvalho would also receive a sizeable pay increase. The Angola-born powerhouse has previously attracted interest from a host of top clubs, including Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and West Brom.
Italian champions Juventus are also tempted by Carvalho, who has won 40 Portugal caps.
