SEAN DYCHE is in line to become Everton’s new manager — and it could happen by Monday.
Goodison chief Farhad Moshiri is now convinced the Burnley boss is the right man to succeed sacked Ronald Koeman.
The Toffees are ready to trigger the £2.5million release clause in Dyche’s Turf Moorcontract despite holding talks with Sam Allardyce in London yesterday. Watford’s Marco Silva and Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo were also under consideration. But with Carlo Ancelotti ruled out, the choice is now between Dyche and Allardyce. Dyche, 46, is seen as a better long–term investment having lifted the Clarets to seventh on a shoestring budget. Ashley Williams blames the players for Koeman’s sacking and Everton’s shocking start to the season.
The Toffees defender admits he and his team-mates let down the Dutchman. And Williams has revealed how Everton’s Finch Farm training ground is “not a nice place to be”, with the struggling side suffering a confidence crisis.
The Scousers are 18th in the Premier League on eight points after just two wins in ten games. And tonight David Unsworth’s men are effectively playing for pride in the Europa League as they take on Lyon sitting bottom of Group E with one point from three games. Koeman was given the bullet the day after last month’s 5-2 loss to Arsenal at Goodison.
And Williams, 33, said: “It hurts. He was someone we all liked and you feel responsible as a player. It’s disappointing for everyone.
“It’s not nice when you’re not winning, it affects everyone.
“When you’re in the training ground at times like that it’s not always a nice place to be. Confidence is low.”
