Daniel Sturridge ends SEVEN YEAR wait for Champions League goal

DANIEL STURRIDGE ended his SEVEN YEAR wait for a Champions League goal after scoring against Maribor.
The Liverpool striker last scored in Europe's top competition while he was still at Chelsea - against Slovenian minnows Zilina on November 23, 2010.
Daniel Sturridge ended his SEVEN YEAR wait for a goal in the Champions League
It was Sturridge's third goal of the season and second inside a week after he scored in the 3-0 win against Huddersfield at the weekend.
Jurgen Klopp's team cemented their place at the top of Group E with a 3-0 win over Maribor. They will still need to pick up positive results in their next two matches against Sevilla and Spartak Moscow - the Spanish side won 2-1 on Wednesday night.
Mohamed Salah and Emre Can scored the other two goals as the Reds missed another penalty, this time James Milner failing to score from 12 yards. But the win came at a price, with key midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum hobbling off injured after just 15 minutes. Speaking after the game, Jurgen Klopp said: "At half time, it was a similar situation to the last game against Huddersfield against an even more defensive side. "But we did not create enough and it was going to be hard work. They changed completely their usual style and you can see how good they are.
"We had a good start with the counter-pressing but then forget to move quicker. The second half decided the game. "Georginio Wijnaldum got an injury but the ankle is swollen and it is not a good sign.
"The group is maybe the most interesting in the Champions League, nothing is decided. If you want to play in February, you have to win your games.
"The penalty from James Milner was good but the goalkeeper made a fantastic save. We have to think about this, these boys usually do it from this distance, we will find a solution."
