JESSE LINGARD will make his 100th Manchester United appearance tonight when the Red Devils take on Basel.
United's official Twitter account congratulated the local lad on his achievement as the team news was announced an hour before the Champions League clash.
But while the club were full of positives for Lingard, 24, fans thought otherwise.
Supporters tweeted a number of images and GIFs expressing their puzzlement.
One user wrote, "100 too many" while another called the England ace a "clown".
But some passionate fans jumped to Lingard's defence against the trolls. One wrote: "A great team player, and he's useful for Jose so why don't you stop hating and start supporting?"
Another posted: "Congrats Jesse Lingard shhh to the haters." Lingard, who was born in Warrington and joined United's academy at the age of seven, made his senior debut under Louis van Gaal in a 2-1 defeat to Swansea on August 4, 2014.
He has featured regularly since and Jose Mourinho has fielded the midfielder 15 times this season, starting him just four times before tonight. Lingard has scored 14 goals in 99 appearances, including strikes in the FA Cup and League Cup finals, and the Community Shield.
Meanwhile, Paul Pogba captains a much-changed United team against the Swiss club. Mourinho has made seven changes from the team which thumped Newcastle 4-1 on Saturday .
Only Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial and Chris Smalling retain their place in the starting XI.
