The 25-year-old was replaced between the sticks by midfielder Denis Glushakov as Russia had used all their six substitutes. But no further goals were scored as the teams were forced to share the spoils in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Lenev, who was knocked out in the incident, was then placed on a stretcher, bandaged on the head, and carted off the pitch.
He was taken to hospital in an ambulance, where he will undergo precautionary tests. Spain were held to a thrilling 3-3 friendly draw by World Cup hosts Russia in Saint Petersburg despite a brace of penalties from centre-back Sergio Ramos. Barcelona full-back Jordi Alba's strike and Ramos' first spot-kick put the visitors in control, but goals either side of half-time from Fedor Smolov and Alexei Miranchuk pulled Russia level. Although Real Madrid defender Ramos put Julen Lopetegui's men back in front, Smolov also completed a double to grab a draw.
Spain still extended their unbeaten run under Lopetegui to 15 matches. Lopetegui said: "Russia showed a high level of play tonight as their players all looked extremely motivated.
"Russia haven't played any competitive games and their players worked flat out in every single friendly match.
"But we also played well tonight. Both of our recent friendlies have been very useful for our team."
