Sam Allardyce set to sign mega £100k-a-week Everton deal until end of season with Craig Shakespeare as his No2
EVERTON want Sam Allardyce as their new boss — but only until the end of the season.
Toffees chiefs turned back to Big Sam after failing to land first choice, Watford chief
Marco Silva
.
The emergency
Allardyce
deal —
revealed by SunSport last week
— would see the former England boss installed with ex-Leicester manager
Craig Shakespeare
as his No 2.
Shakespeare, 54, was axed by the Foxes last month just four months after signing a three-year deal to take the top job on a permanent basis.
But he is now willing to return to a more familiar assistant role at Goodison.
Allardyce, 63, had told
Everton
he was keen on a
long-term contract plus a survival bonus
— but he could now say ‘yes’ to a lucrative deal just until May.
And Big Sam is set to put pen to paper on a £100k-a-week deal in the coming days.
Portuguese boss Silva, 40, would have had a more lucrative deal on Merseyside but he feels loyalty to Watford, who gave him a job in the summer. Allardyce's first game could be at his former club Crystal Palace — who will be due £2million compensation after he quit last summer.
That would also mean facing Roy Hodgson, who he succeeded as England boss. David Unsworth has been caretaker since Dutchman Ronald Koeman was axed two weeks ago.
The former defender, 44, wants the job permanently but Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Watford was his first in four matches in charge.
