ARSENAL are preparing a move to replace Mesut Ozil with a star they sold for just £400,000 five years ago. Ozil is out of contract and the Emirates next summer and has been unable to agree a new deal with the club.
He now looks certain to depart North London along with fellow contract rebel Alexis Sanchez . However, reports in Turkey claim that the Gunners are preparing a £10m bid to bring their former player Oguzham Ozyakup back to the club. The Turkish international left them back in 2012 for Besiktas after failing to make a Premier League appearance.
Since his departure he has gone on to become a first-team regular in Istanbul. The 25-year-old has played a huge role in Besiktas' fine Champions League campaign, persuading Arsene Wenger to try and lure him back to Arsenal. And Fotomac say that he is willing to splash out upto £10m - 25 times the amount they flogged him for - to land the ace. Ozyakup is viewed as the ideal man to fill the potential void left by Ozil, 29. He plays in the same position and can be used by Wenger in either an attacking midfield role or as a deeper playmaker. Ozyakup is now also in the last year of contract with Besiktas, and the club could be tempted to cash in during the January transfer window rather than risk losing him for free.
The Turkish giants are currently locked in talks with him and his representatives as they attempt to tie him down to a bumper new deal.
However, they have so far been able to agree on terms as the Gunners continue to closely monitor the situation.
