Aaron Ramsey Set to be out for three weeks with hamstring injury
AARON RAMSEY could be out for three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury against Southampton.
Ramsey finished
the 1-1 draw at St Mary’s
a limping bystander after suffering the muscle problem late in the game.
But because
Arsene Wenger
had already used all three subs he was unable to take the midfielder off – even though he fears he has a problem.
The Welsh international will now have scans to determine the extent of the injury, but if they confirm a strain he could be sidelined until after Christmas.
Boss Wenger said: “
Aaron Ramsey
couldn’t play at the end. He had a hamstring problem.”
Even if the tests don’t show any major damage, Ramsey is now a big doubt for the clash with London rivals
West Ham
on Wednesday night. Wenger takes his side to the London Stadium knowing defeat would be another blow in his side’s bid to secure a top finish in the Premier League this season.
But if Ramsey is missing it could provide Jack Wilshere the opportunity to make his first Premier League start of the season for the Gunners. Wilshere has impressed in Europa League action since recovering from the broken leg that ruled him out for the opening six weeks of the campaign.
But he is yet to earn the trust of Wenger to be named in his starting line-up in league matches, despite growing calls for his inclusion. Having taken just a point from the last two league matches,
Arsenal
have now dropped down to fifth in the table, just a point ahead of sixth-placed Tottenham.
They face the Hammers on Wednesday night on the back of the relegation strugglers securing a
shock 1-0 win over Chelsea
on Saturday.
They then entertain Newcastle at the Emirates next weekend, with another game against West Ham in the EFL Cup and a clash with Liverpool also to come before Christmas.
And if Ramsey’s injury is confirmed as a strain, it would mean the 26-year-old would almost certainly miss all four matches.
