Cristiano Ronaldo furious after Real Madrid striker had goal disallowed

CRISTIANO RONALDO was more rattled than the crossbar he smashed a shot against as he raged over goal-line technology.
The Real Madrid superstar stopped to argue after his Champions League strike against APOEL was ruled out for not crossing the line. Ronaldo had already tucked home Gareth Bale’s 12th minute cross as the duo started together for the first time this season.
And later on the former Manchester United flier slotted home a penalty, before Sergio Ramos’ overhead kick completed a routine 3-0 win over the Cyrpriot minnows in the Group H opener.
But Ronaldo’s temper boiled over at the Bernabeu when his fierce left-footer ricocheted down off the bar and was disallowed by new technology.
The Euro 2016 winner with Portugal ran to the official behind the goal to remonstrate, insisting the ball had crossed the line.
But not even the ranting and arm-waving of a modern-day great like Ronaldo could beat technological innovation.
And once he calms down Ronaldo will surely be satisfied with his night’s efforts. He is serving a domestic ban after pushing a referee in a Spanish Supercopa clash against Barcelona last month.
And his double on Wednesday evening took him to 107 Champions League goals.
Ronaldo’s performance was almost as impressive as his great rival Lionel Messi, who destroyed Juventus the previous night.
Messi’s two goals and mesmeric running showed Barcelona can comfortably survive and thrive without £198million Paris Saint-Germain new boy Neymar as they won 3-0.
