Sadio Mane’s red card appeal is a ‘waste of time’ as Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

JURGEN KLOPP insists appealing Sadio Mane’s red card against Manchester City would be a “waste of time.”
The Liverpool star was sent off in the first half in controversial fashion after a high boot to the head of City goalie Ederson. Klopp’s men went on to lose the match 5-0, and the sending-off has since sparked a raging debate as to whether ref Jon Moss made the right decision.
But Reds boss Klopp has no intention of trying to reverse the red card, saying: “It never works. It would be another waste of time, like the game today.
“It was an accident. [Mane] is very unlucky. The situation I think everyone knows he didn’t see the goalie.
“There was not one second he looks on the goalie. He just wanted to get the ball as soon as possible.
“Hopefully the goalie is not seriously injured.
“Sadio is very, very, very upset. He is shocked about the decision and I am sure also about the situation… I am sure enough will find reasons to say it was the right decision.” Klopp also reflected on the heavy defeat, adding: “I will try to ignore the result. Not the mistakes but the result. That is already done.
“We should have had more chances. Mo [Salah] was three or four times on the touchline in the box and no one was on the front post.
“With one man down against City, it is really not the best place to be.
“It was a hard lesson today. We also need to learn the first half we need to influence the game in another direction.”
