Juventus admit defeat in their attempts to sign Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta

JUVENTUS have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta.
The Serie A side have been linked with a move for the Spanish midfielder when his contract expires at the end of the season. However, Juve CEO Giuseppe Marotta has poured cold water on the deal, and insisted that the 33-year-old is set to extend his stay at the Nou Camp.
Speaking to La Sexta, Marotta said: “Iniesta is an amazing footballer but he is contracted with Barcelona.
“He is going to sign a contract extension with them as well.
“He is on very good terms with the board and he is a very important footballer for his club so I don’t see Iniesta leave Barcelona in the future.
“I think he will stay at Barcelona.”
Inistea has been at Barca since 1996 and made over 450 appearances for the club. During that time he has helped them to numerous honours.
He has won La Liga eight times with the Catalans as well lifting the Champions Leaguefour times.
Despite his successful reign at the centre of their side, Barca have allowed the veteran to run into the final year of his contract. Iniesta revealed earlier this month that he was in no rush to sign a new deal – even though club president Josep Bartomeu initially said an agreement had been struck.
That led to speculation Juventus were preparing a move, but now this latest twist appears to confirm that he will indeed be renewing his stay at the Nou Camp.
