Marcos Rojo provides Jose Mourinho with huge boost as he returns for Under-21 clash
MARCOS ROJO successfully came through his Manchester United comeback after a seven-month lay-off.
The Argentine defender played for the club’s Under-21s on Wednesday evening against Athletic Bilbao.
Rojo, 26, started at centre-half and completed 45 minutes in the
Premier League
International Cup in a huge boost for
Jose Mourinho
.
The star suffered knee ligament damage last April against Anderlecht in the Europa League.
However, after an intense rehabilitation programme, he looked like he had never been away against the Spaniards.
Rojo only played the first half with United keen to ease him back into match action. The South American became a firm favourite with the Old Trafford faithful and was a regular under Mourinho last season.
Positioned in central defence, he showed his best form for the Red Devils since arriving at the club. Rojo will be hoping a return to the senior squad is not too far away.
But Mourinho and his staff will be keen for him to get some more appearances for the second string first. His return will bolster the United squad ahead of the busy festive period.
The Red Devils are currently in second spot in the Prem but have faltered in recent weeks.
They currently trail neighbours Manchester City by eight points after eleven matches.
