Arsenal to make fresh bid for Thomas Lemar
ARSENAL will reportedly pick up their pursuit of Monaco star Thomas Lemar with a fresh offer in January.
The Gunners will be in need of rebuilding their squad with the likely exit of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.
With the threat of star forward
Sanchez
departing once again hanging over the
Gunners
, the London club will have a second try at securing the versatile midfielder, according to the
Daily Mail
.
However, this time it won’t reach the £90million they made in August.
That figure would have been supported by the potential fee for Sanchez from Manchester City.
But both deals collapsed when
Lemar
was reluctant to make the move from Monaco at such a late stage in the season. With the Frenchman’s deal off the table, the Gunners clutched on to the wantaway Chilean as the transfer window closed.
It is now understood Lemar is keen to move which may persuade the Ligue 1 side to sell.
The 22-year-old has failed to hit the heights of last season when he rose to one of Europe’s best players as Monaco won France’s top league and reached the Champions League semi-finals.
He played an instrumental part in their 2016-17 success with nine league goals and ten assists. This season however, he has managed just one goal in all competition.
With his production down on last season and without the inflated deadline day price
Arsenal will look to secure Lemar for less.
Meanwhile, City have renewed their pursuit of Sanchez in their bid to secure the Premier League and Champions League double.
They will reportedly test Arsenal’s resolve with a
£50m deal for the forward in January
. Arsene Wenger has also
set his sights on PSG youngster Goncalo Guedes
to help fill the void left by Sanchez and possibly Ozil – his contract also expires at the end of the season.
The 21-year-old winger is currently on a season-long loan at Valencia where he has been instrumental in the club’s challenge of Barcelona in La Liga.
