Manchester United confirm Zlatan Ibrahimovic has contract terminated so he can join LA Galaxy
MANCHESTER UNITED have terminated the contract of star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic ahead of a switch to LA Galaxy.
The 36-year-old is expected to link up with the
MLS club
imminently as he leaves Old Trafford for the American giants.
United said on their
website
: "Everyone at the club would like to thank
Zlatan
for his contribution to the team since his arrival and wishes him well for the future."
While the Swedish maestro took to Instagram to thank the fans for their support, claiming the club will forever be a part of him.
He said: "Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with
Manchester United
.
"Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history.
#foreverred
." Ibrahimovic enjoyed a sensational maiden season at the Theatre of Dreams, helping the Red Devils win the Europa League and EFL Cup as he banged in 28 goals in 46 games.
But his second campaign under
Jose Mourinho
has been plagued by injuries, with his last appearance coming against Burnley on Boxing Day. An announcement is expected on Friday where it is believed the former Barcelona striker will officially sign for Sigi Schmid's side.
The current MLS season is already up and running, with Galaxy sitting ninth out of 12th in the Western Conference. And with the transfer window open until May 1, Galaxy have acted fast to bring in the maverick striker.
It has been reported
that Ibrahimovic will sign a two-year £1million deal with the MLS side
, having long been linked with a move to the 2000 CONCACAF Champions League winners.
Former United fan favourite David Beckham proudly donned the LA shirt between 2007-2012, before the likes of Robbie Keane and
Steven Gerrard
signed for the club.
Ibrahimovic is expected to link up with former Arsenal and Chelsea left-back
Ashley Cole
, as well as Tottenham flop Giovano dos Santos at the StubHub Center.
